Man has been cursed with procrastination since the dawn of gift shopping. But, is it possible that it is not really procrastination, but instead fear. That’s right fear, a fear of going through yet another anniversary gift shopping fiasco that most likely will result in failure.

     Also contributing to the problem is the way most men shop, and that is, get in - get what you want - and get out. Very rarely will you ever find a man that has the patience to stroll up and down every aisle of countless shops looking for the perfect gift. Most men just will not shop if they don’t know what they’re looking for, period. Which is probably the same reason we do not like to stop and ask directions, I think we just refuse to look lost. But lost we are in the world of romantic gift shopping.

     Shopping at an online shop can make the quest for a romantic gift easier on a man, but there are still two points that must be overcome for this method to work.

     1. Last minute shopping and shipping times do not mix and can make shopping online impractical. We have to overcome the desire to put off till tomorrow what should have been done yesterday.

     2. Online or off, you still have to learn how to shop for and choose a romantic gift. Just because it’s easier to look for does not mean we’ll recognize a romantic anniversary gift when we see one.

     There is a light at the end of the tunnel though; quality gift shops are starting to offer help and suggestions in choosing romantic gifts. Once we know what is appropriate or romantic it’s a piece of cake, its not knowing that is so crippling to us.

     It would be very hard if not impossible, to cover all of the points of what constitutes a romantic gift within the space of this article, in fact something so complex could not even be covered in an entire book. But we can go over some of the basics to increase your odds of finding a truly romantic anniversary gift this year.

     1. You can find a romantic gift for most occasions without breaking your pocketbook; you just have to show that a little thought was put into it. This is a must for a romantic gift; it must look like you put some thought into choosing a unique gift to go with the recipient’s personality or likes and desires. A good example of an inexpensive but romantic gesture would be a homemade gift, these can be as simple as a collage of pictures depicting your life together or coupons for foot rubs etc

     2. Symbolic gifts can be very romantic in the right circumstances. Most people know that one red rose in full bloom means “I Love You”, and there are a lot more, white and red roses in a bouquet signify unity. 2 roses taped together into one stem represent an engagement or marriage. Do a little research and find something appropriate for the situation, then present your gift of love and romance with an attached card, to let the recipient know of the symbolic gesture.

     3. Following the traditional anniversary gift list when shopping for anniversary gifts, is a sure way to romance. Though it will not give specific suggestions, the traditional list will only state the material that the gift should be made of, like cotton for the second and wood for the fifth. After finding a romantic gift made of the material listed for the anniversary you’re celebrating, try including a love note or poem. Let the recipient know that you followed the traditional anniversary gift list. There is nothing quite as romantic as a spouse who uses this list each year in their search for the perfect romantic gift.
